Do you qualify for GS-7?

With experience: You need one year of experience at the GS-6 level, which is the next lower grade. The job is GS-7 at full performance. The experience must be comparable to medical support assistant work or a similar administrative patient support role in a non-VA medical setting, and it must include advanced knowledge of scheduling, medical terms, and patient flow.

With education: A high school diploma, GED, or state proficiency certificate meets the basic education requirement. Education does not replace the one-year experience needed for this job.

How to apply well

What to send:

  • Long-form resume or CV that clearly shows your one-year specialized experience
  • Transcript if you use education to qualify
  • SF-50 showing one-year specialized experience if you are a current or former federal employee
  • DD-214 if you claim veterans' preference
  • SF-15 if you claim 10-point veterans' preference
  • Written responses to the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs), highly recommended

How you will be rated: You are rated on how well you meet the qualifications, using your application, resume, questionnaire answers, and a USA Hire online assessment. Rated competencies include customer service, flexibility, teamwork, and reading comprehension. Missing required documents by the deadline will remove you from consideration, and errors or omissions may hurt your rating.

Tips for this job:

  • Confirm you are a current permanent NWI employee before applying, since the job is open only to that group.
  • The 2-page resume rule does not apply here, but your resume must clearly show your one-year specialized experience.
  • If you are a federal employee, send an SF-50 that shows one-year specialized experience, since award SF-50s are not accepted.
