Do you qualify for GG-11 to GG-13?
With experience: You need at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in federal service, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience means work applying professional engineering disciplines to the job. For GG-11, post-degree work experience can count instead of experience.
With education: For GG-11, a doctorate in or related to engineering, or a master's degree plus 1 year of post-degree engineering work, or a bachelor's degree plus 2 years of post-degree engineering work. You also need a bachelor's or higher degree in a relevant engineering field, ideally from an ABET-accredited program. Engineering technology degrees generally do not qualify unless supported by other proof, such as a P.E. license or EIT exam results. Foreign degrees need proof of U.S. equivalency.
How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume, limited to 2 pages, showing dates, hours per week, title, series, and grade for each job
- Official or unofficial college or university transcripts for each degree, showing school name, student name, degree, and date awarded
- Diplomas are not accepted in place of transcripts
- SF-50 if you are a current federal employee or reinstatement eligible
- DD-214 and SF-15 if you claim veterans' preference
- Schedule A letter if you apply under Schedule A
- Proof of foreign education equivalency if you qualify through foreign education
How you will be rated: Your resume is rated on your knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the job, and the top candidates are referred to the hiring manager. Applications missing required documents are marked incomplete and not considered, and resumes with prohibited personal details such as photos, age, or Social Security numbers may be ruled ineligible.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to 2 pages and list dates, hours per week, title, series, and grade for each job
- Send transcripts for every degree you list, since diplomas are not accepted
- Show your specialized engineering experience and the four ideal candidate skills directly in your resume, because the agency will not assume your experience
