Who can apply: Military spouses, Individuals with disabilities, The public, Veterans, Peace Corps & AmeriCorps Vista, Federal employees - Competitive service, Special authorities, Federal employees - Excepted service.
This job is open to the public. U.S. citizens, nationals, and people who owe allegiance to the U.S. may apply, and the agency says all U.S. citizens may apply.
Experience: You need at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in federal service, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience means work applying professional engineering disciplines to the job. For GG-11, post-degree work experience can count instead of experience.
Education: For GG-11, a doctorate in or related to engineering, or a master's degree plus 1 year of post-degree engineering work, or a bachelor's degree plus 2 years of post-degree engineering work. You also need a bachelor's or higher degree in a relevant engineering field, ideally from an ABET-accredited program. Engineering technology degrees generally do not qualify unless supported by other proof, such as a P.E. license or EIT exam results. Foreign degrees need proof of U.S. equivalency.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 86 days (January 28, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
The announcement lists several cut-off dates, and you must submit your complete application by a cut-off date or the closing date to be considered.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume is rated on your knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the job, and the top candidates are referred to the hiring manager. Applications missing required documents are marked incomplete and not considered, and resumes with prohibited personal details such as photos, age, or Social Security numbers may be ruled ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (L Access Authorization), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to 2 pages and list dates, hours per week, title, series, and grade for each job
- Send transcripts for every degree you list, since diplomas are not accepted
- Show your specialized engineering experience and the four ideal candidate skills directly in your resume, because the agency will not assume your experience
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
