Who can apply: The public.
U.S. citizens and non-U.S. nationals who have lived in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for at least three continuous years before starting federal work may apply. You must live within the local commuting area (Robins AFB and a 50-mile radius), be able to commute daily or as needed, or be able to relocate at your own expense.
Education: A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree from a veterinary school accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a private evaluation service or be given full credit by a U.S. accredited school.
Licenses and certifications:
- Valid, unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (any U.S. state)
- USDA APHIS accreditation, which you must obtain or renew within your first 60 days (active accreditation earns Best Qualified status)
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes today (November 4, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume and questionnaire answers are reviewed against the listed qualifications. You are rated only on what your resume shows, so experience is not assumed. Incomplete applications, including missing questionnaire answers, may be rated ineligible, and overstated experience can affect your consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less and clearly show your veterinary experience, since you are rated only on what it says.
- Answer every questionnaire question, because missing answers can make you ineligible.
- Upload your DVM or VMD degree, active state license, resume, and transcript by the closing date, and attach proof for any priority or veterans' preference you claim.
