This job in plain English
This is a part-time veterinarian job at the Robins AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility in Georgia, run by the U.S. Army Medical Command. It is an Army Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) job, which uses a separate Army hiring system. Only a few positions are open, and the job is permanent.
Can you apply?
Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.
- Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.
U.S. citizens and non-U.S. nationals who have lived in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for at least three continuous years before starting federal work may apply. You must live within the local commuting area (Robins AFB and a 50-mile radius), be able to commute daily or as needed, or be able to relocate at your own expense.
What you would do
- Serve as the clinic veterinarian for wellness visits and disease prevention for pets
- Examine animals, treat illnesses and injuries, and perform surgeries
- Collect tissue, blood, urine, feces, and other samples for testing
- Perform and interpret lab results, and issue health certificates
- Supervise Animal Health Assistants on veterinary nursing and animal care
Do you qualify for NF-4?
With education: A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree from a veterinary school accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a private evaluation service or be given full credit by a U.S. accredited school.
Licenses and certifications you need:
- Valid, unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (any U.S. state)
- USDA APHIS accreditation, which you must obtain or renew within your first 60 days (active accreditation earns Best Qualified status)
How to apply well
What to send:
- DVM or VMD degree
- Active state veterinary license
- Resume of two pages or less showing your relevant experience
- Transcript (official transcripts required before hire; unofficial accepted for first screening)
- Cover letter (optional)
- USDA certificate, if you have one
- DD-214 if you claim veterans' preference
How you will be rated: Your resume and questionnaire answers are reviewed against the listed qualifications. You are rated only on what your resume shows, so experience is not assumed. Incomplete applications, including missing questionnaire answers, may be rated ineligible, and overstated experience can affect your consideration.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less and clearly show your veterinary experience, since you are rated only on what it says.
- Answer every questionnaire question, because missing answers can make you ineligible.
- Upload your DVM or VMD degree, active state license, resume, and transcript by the closing date, and attach proof for any priority or veterans' preference you claim.
