Who can apply: Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL), Military spouses, The public.

This job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen or national. Permanent Resident Card holders do not qualify. Military spouses and career transition applicants may get priority, and the job is also open under a separate announcement to internal employees, veterans, military spouses, and National Guard and reserves.

Experience: One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that shows you can learn the job's duties. This is general experience at the GS-4 minimum level.

Education: Two full years of completed education above high school at an accredited business, secretarial, technical, junior college, college, or university. You can use education alone, experience alone, or a combination. For a combination, divide your months of experience by 12, divide your semester hours by 60, and add the two percentages; a total of 100% qualifies you. Transcripts are required if you use education.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Level 1 Certification under the DoD Financial Management Certification Program, which you must obtain within 2 years of starting

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 13 days (November 16, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: HR first checks that you meet the minimum qualifications and submitted all documents. You then answer an online questionnaire about cash processing, communication, and computer operations, and the score is a preliminary measure. You are placed in Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified. Missing or unclear documents, a resume over two pages, or overstated experience can result in an ineligible rating.

Apply on USAJOBS ↗
4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • List the hours you worked per week for every job on your resume, or it may be marked incomplete.
  • Keep your resume to two pages or less, because longer resumes are removed from consideration.
  • Upload your transcripts if you use education, and remember official transcripts are needed before a job offer.
