Do you qualify for GS-4?
With experience: One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that shows you can learn the job's duties. This is general experience at the GS-4 minimum level.
With education: Two full years of completed education above high school at an accredited business, secretarial, technical, junior college, college, or university. You can use education alone, experience alone, or a combination. For a combination, divide your months of experience by 12, divide your semester hours by 60, and add the two percentages; a total of 100% qualifies you. Transcripts are required if you use education.
Licenses and certifications you need:
- Level 1 Certification under the DoD Financial Management Certification Program, which you must obtain within 2 years of starting
How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume of no more than two pages showing hours worked per week, dates, and duties for each job
- SF 50 showing your current position title, pay plan, series, grade, tenure, and position, required for DeCA employees
- Transcripts if you use education to qualify; unofficial copies are fine to apply, but official ones are needed before a job offer
- DD-214 and SF 15 or VA letter if you claim veterans' preference
- Equivalency evaluation letter and course-by-course listing if you use foreign education
- Supporting documents for any eligibility you select in the online questionnaire
How you will be rated: HR first checks that you meet the minimum qualifications and submitted all documents. You then answer an online questionnaire about cash processing, communication, and computer operations, and the score is a preliminary measure. You are placed in Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified. Missing or unclear documents, a resume over two pages, or overstated experience can result in an ineligible rating.
Tips for this job:
- List the hours you worked per week for every job on your resume, or it may be marked incomplete.
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, because longer resumes are removed from consideration.
- Upload your transcripts if you use education, and remember official transcripts are needed before a job offer.
