Do you qualify for GS-9 to GS-11?
With experience: For the GS-9 level, no experience is required beyond the basic requirements. For the GS-11 level, you need at least 1 year of experience after your master's degree in social work, at the GS-9 level, in health care or social work settings, plus a state license to practice independently.
With education: You need a master's degree in social work from a school fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A doctoral degree in social work cannot replace the master's degree. For the GS-11 level, a doctoral degree in social work may replace the one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting.
Licenses and certifications you need:
- State license or certification to practice social work independently at the master's level
- GS-9 applicants may be waived if pending state exam; GS-11 applicants must be licensed
How to apply well
What to send:
- Long-form resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
- Transcript
- SF-50 showing current grade, step, and salary, if you are a current federal employee
- SF-50 showing one-year time-in-grade, if you are a current federal employee relying on it
How you will be rated: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications listed in the announcement. Your application, resume, CV, and supporting documents will be verified, and errors or omissions may affect your consideration.
Tips for this job:
- If you are a current federal employee, submit an SF-50 that clearly shows one year in your current grade, because a recent SF-50 may not show it.
- Describe your experience clearly and specifically, with dates, since the agency says it will not assume anything.
- Include both a long-form resume or CV and a transcript, since missing documents can lower your rating.
