Who can apply: Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL), The public.
The agency states this announcement is open to U.S. citizens or nationals and to career transition eligibles (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL), who are displaced federal employees with priority rights. Separate announcements exist for status candidates and Field Unit local hiring eligibles.
Experience: For GS-07, you need one full year of experience comparable to GS-05 that includes helping manage public or federal grazing lands, range monitoring with field data, inspecting range improvements, or working on a livestock ranch or comparable land. Higher grades (GS-09 and GS-11) have their own experience or education rules listed in the announcement.
Education: You need a bachelor's degree or higher in range management or a closely related field, with at least 42 semester hours: 18 in range management, 15 in plant, animal, and soil sciences (at least one course in each), and 9 in related resource subjects such as wildlife, watershed, forestry, or outdoor recreation management. Graduate study can count toward GS-07, GS-09, and GS-11, with one year, two years, or three years of graduate study needed respectively.
Licenses and certifications:
- Valid driver's license, kept throughout employment
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 4 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume, questionnaire answers, and assessments are rated into three groups: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, and Qualified, with veterans' preference placed above non-preference applicants within each group. You will be assessed on compliance inspection, interpersonal skills, planning and evaluating, rangeland management, and technology application. Overstating experience or cheating on an assessment can get you removed.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Write hours per week for each job on your resume, or say full-time, or that time may not count toward your experience.
- Clearly show which jobs match GS-05 duties and the dates for each grade level you claim.
- If you use education, submit full transcripts with credit hours, GPA, and degree dates, because a typed course list is not accepted.
- Apply separately to each announcement if you want to be considered under all recruitment methods.
