Who can apply: The public.
Open to U.S. citizens, nationals, and those who owe allegiance to the U.S. The conditions of employment say you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Veterans' preference does not apply to external applicants for Fiscal Year 2027 under a staffing-shortage waiver.
Experience: One year of experience equivalent to GS-5, a federal pay grade, is needed for this grade level. Examples include scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling patient appointments, entering no-show information, and verifying patient insurance and demographics at check-in.
Education: A high school diploma, GED certificate, or proficiency certificate from a state or territorial board of education meets the basic education requirement. Education cannot replace experience at this grade.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 327 days (September 27, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
This is an open continuous announcement with an initial referral cutoff of 11/13/2026, and qualified applicants are referred as vacancies become available.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You are rated on your application, resume, questionnaire answers, supporting documents, and USA Hire assessments. The competencies measured include customer service, teamwork, interpersonal skills, and reading comprehension, and errors or missing information may lower your rating or make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must list job title, duties, month and year start and end dates, and hours per week for each job, or the experience will not count.
- Set aside at least 3 hours for the USA Hire assessments and finish them within the deadline.
- If you use education to qualify, attach a transcript from a school accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting body.
