Who can apply: The public.
Only U.S. citizens can apply. The announcement says you must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. The job is open to the public.
Experience: You need 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level. Specialized experience here means reviewing systems for availability, monitoring system performance, and diagnosing and fixing problems from user calls or reported incidents. Your experience must also show four skills: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
Education: You can qualify with a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or with 3 full years of graduate education leading toward such a degree, in a listed field such as computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management. You can also qualify with 3 full years of graduate education that included at least 24 semester hours in those fields and required building or changing applications, systems, or networks. Education must come from an accredited school. Foreign education needs an evaluation or full U.S. credit.
Licenses and certifications:
- A+ certification, which you must obtain and maintain
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes today (November 4, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application package, including your resume, supporting documents, and online questionnaire, will be reviewed to check if you meet the qualifications. Applications with missing information may be marked incomplete or rated ineligible, and inflated qualifications may cause you to lose consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must show hours worked per week for each job, or your application may be marked incomplete.
- Your resume must be two pages or less, and it should describe duties that match the four required skills and the network tasks listed.
- If you use education instead of experience, you must submit official transcripts from accredited schools, or your education will not be counted.
