What you would do

  • Design, develop, and maintain application systems as a senior technical team member.
  • Analyze requirements and decide whether new or changed applications are feasible.
  • Write detailed logic, software, and job control specifications for systems.
  • Troubleshoot system design and software problems and respond to problem reports.
  • Review technical literature to keep up with new software tools and changes.

Do you qualify for GS-13?

With experience: You need one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 in the federal service. Specialized experience means evaluating and customizing software and systems, including analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance, plus IT work in attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

With education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade level. Degrees and coursework must come from a school accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
