Environmental Services Technician
Veterans Health Administration · Department of Veterans Affairs
This job in plain English
This Environmental Services Technician job with the Veterans Health Administration cleans patient areas, offices, and other spaces at VA Medical Centers in Tulsa and Muskogee, Oklahoma. It is open continuous, full time or part time, and uses Direct-Hire Authority, which means traditional veterans' preference rules do not apply.
It may close early. This open continuous announcement may close without advance notice, so applying early is wise.
Can you apply?
Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.
- Displaced federal employeesFederal employees who lost or are losing their job through a reduction in force (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL).
- Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.
Other groups listed above may get extra consideration, for example veterans' preference.
Open to U.S. citizens, nationals, and people who owe allegiance to the U.S. Career transition candidates (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL) and federal employees whose job or agency was eliminated may also apply and have priority.

Do you qualify for WG-2?
With experience: No specific length of training or experience is required. You must show training or experience that is broad enough and of good enough quality to do the work, with detailed descriptions on your resume. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts. Ratings follow OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards (WG-2).
With education: This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume (two pages maximum, PDF recommended)
- Cover letter (optional)
- Transcript, if you use education to qualify
- SF-50 or other proof of federal employment, if you are a current or former federal employee
- ICTAP or CTAP documentation or separation notice (RIF), if you are a displaced federal employee
- DD-214 or Statement of Service, if you include military service
- Disability letter (Schedule A or VA), if applicable
How you will be rated: Applicants complete an online occupational questionnaire, and the first question is a screen-out for minimum qualifications. Those who pass are rated on the job elements and referred in the order received. Errors or omissions may lower your rating or make you ineligible, and resumes longer than two pages cause ineligibility.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, and list hours per week for each job, since part-time experience counts by hours worked.
- Describe specific cleaning, custodial, or housekeeping duties in each job, because the agency will not assume your experience.
- Check that you have the required resume and any documents that apply to you, such as an SF-50 or CTAP/ICTAP proof, because applicants without required documents are ineligible.
