Who can apply: The public, Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL).

Only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. Federal employees eligible under ICTAP or CTAP (priority programs for people whose jobs were eliminated) in the local commuting area are also eligible.

Experience: You need 52 weeks (1 year) of specialized experience at least equal to GS-5. Examples include planning, scheduling, or collecting economic or survey data from companies by visit, video, phone, or email, or entering that data into software.

Education: You must have a degree in economics with at least 21 semester hours of economics and 3 semester hours of statistics, accounting, or calculus, or an equivalent mix of education and experience. For this level, 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement (top third of class, GPA of 3.0 or higher, or an honor society membership) can count toward qualifying. Schools must be accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized body.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Valid driver's license

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes tomorrow (November 4, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your resume, supporting documents, and vacancy question answers place you in Category A, B, or C. You may also take USA Hire online assessments (about 2 hours) on attention to detail, integrity/honesty, interpersonal skills, and reading comprehension, and interviews or reference checks may follow. Missing required information can lower your rating, and a resume longer than 2 pages makes you ineligible.

Apply on USAJOBS ↗
4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • List the month, year, and hours per week for each job on your resume to get full credit for experience.
  • Keep your resume to 2 pages or less, or your application will be ruled ineligible.
  • Submit all required documents by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the closing date, including transcripts if you use education to qualify.
