Do you qualify for GS-14?

With experience: You need 1 year of specialized experience at a level equal to a GS-13 federal employee. Specialized experience means work such as user-centered design, creating user interface designs and prototypes, analyzing digital product use, and engaging stakeholders. Federal experience is not required, and experience can come from the public sector, private sector or volunteer work.

With education: A college or university degree from an accredited school can count toward the requirements. Education from a foreign school can count if you show proof it is equivalent to a U.S. education.

How to apply well

What to send:

  • Resume of no more than two pages, with employer, job title, start and end dates (MM/DD/YYYY) and hours per week for each job
  • Transcripts in English if you qualify through education
  • DD-214 if you claim veterans' preference
  • SF-15 if you claim 10-point veterans' preference
  • SF-50 if you are a current or former federal employee
  • CTAP or ICTAP documentation if it applies to you

How you will be rated: Your application materials, online questionnaire and USA Hire assessments are used to rate you. You are placed in quality category CAT A, B or C, and the highest categories are referred for interviews. Overstating your experience or cheating on an assessment can get you removed from consideration.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must show MM/DD/YYYY start and end dates and hours per week for every job, or you may not get full credit for your experience.
  • Keep your resume to two pages and write your own descriptions instead of copying duties from the announcement.
  • Think carefully about which location you choose, because the one you are selected for becomes your official post of duty.
