Who can apply: The public.

Open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. You must give proof of U.S. citizenship if asked.

Experience: One year of specialized experience at the level of the next lower grade (GS-7). It must include radiographic procedures such as setting up x-ray equipment, reviewing images for quality, or assisting with breast biopsies.

You can also combine education and experience, as long as the combined total reaches 100%. You must also meet the basic requirement of completing an accredited radiologic technology program and being certified as a radiographer.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Radiology certification as a radiographer, with a copy attached to your application
  • Mammography certification is highly preferred but not stated as required

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes tomorrow (November 4, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your full application package, including your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers, will be reviewed to check whether you meet the qualification requirements. Missing documents or information can make you ineligible, and inflated qualifications can cost you consideration.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Attach your radiology certification and transcripts, or you may be rated ineligible.
  • Keep your resume to two pages or less and list hours per week for each job.
  • Uploaded files can take up to an hour to clear virus scan, so upload early.
