Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals only. Veterans' preference does not apply because the job is advertised under Title 7 authorities, a non-civil service hiring authority.
Experience: At the CO-5 level, you need at least 1 year of general work experience supporting agricultural operations, agricultural management, government programs, or office and customer service. At the CO-7 and CO-9 levels, you need 1 year of specialized experience at the matching grade, such as CO-5 or GS-5 analyzing agricultural program requirements, or CO-7 or GS-7 in federal service on agricultural program policies.
Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. Four years of education beyond high school at an accredited school, or a bachelor's degree, can qualify you at CO-5. One full year of graduate school can qualify you at CO-7, and so can a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, 3.5 GPA in major courses in the last two years, upper third of your class, or a National Scholastic Honor Society). A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree qualifies you at CO-9.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 8 days (November 12, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application, including the online Assessment Questionnaire, is checked for minimum qualifications, and your resume must clearly support your answers. If the agency finds you have inflated your qualifications or experience, or given inaccurate information, you may be found ineligible or face discipline up to removal.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- List a title and grade for every federal or FSA county job, or that experience will not count for qualification.
- Include month and year dates and hours worked per week for each job on your resume.
- If you qualify through education, upload a transcript that lists course numbers, titles, credit hours and grades.
