Can you apply?

Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.

  • Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.

This job is open to U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals only. Veterans' preference does not apply because the job is advertised under Title 7 authorities, a non-civil service hiring authority.

What you would do

  • Carry out office work for the farm programs run in the county.
  • Explain procedures, program rules and forms to producers (farmers) and staff.
  • Use web-based software to maintain producer data and process automated forms.
  • Plan and solve problems on assigned tasks using good judgment and initiative.

Do you qualify for CO-5 to CO-9?

With experience: At the CO-5 level, you need at least 1 year of general work experience supporting agricultural operations, agricultural management, government programs, or office and customer service. At the CO-7 and CO-9 levels, you need 1 year of specialized experience at the matching grade, such as CO-5 or GS-5 analyzing agricultural program requirements, or CO-7 or GS-7 in federal service on agricultural program policies.

With education: A high school diploma or GED is required. Four years of education beyond high school at an accredited school, or a bachelor's degree, can qualify you at CO-5. One full year of graduate school can qualify you at CO-7, and so can a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, 3.5 GPA in major courses in the last two years, upper third of your class, or a National Scholastic Honor Society). A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree qualifies you at CO-9.

How to apply well

What to send:

  • Resume of 2 pages or less with name, phone number and email address
  • Work dates by month and year, and hours worked per week, for each job
  • Title and grade for each federal or FSA county job listed on the resume
  • College transcripts if you qualify through education (unofficial copy is fine at first; foreign transcripts need proof of accreditation and an English translation)
  • Optional for current or former federal and FSA county employees: most recent signed performance appraisal and most recent SF-50
  • If selected, current or former federal and FSA county employees must provide the SF-50 and performance appraisal within 7 days of a tentative job offer

How you will be rated: Your application, including the online Assessment Questionnaire, is checked for minimum qualifications, and your resume must clearly support your answers. If the agency finds you have inflated your qualifications or experience, or given inaccurate information, you may be found ineligible or face discipline up to removal.

Tips for this job:

  • List a title and grade for every federal or FSA county job, or that experience will not count for qualification.
  • Include month and year dates and hours worked per week for each job on your resume.
  • If you qualify through education, upload a transcript that lists course numbers, titles, credit hours and grades.
