Do you qualify for GS-5 to GS-9?

With experience: You need at least 52 weeks of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level, such as work as a food inspector, consumer safety inspector, public health inspector, or quality inspection specialist with meat, poultry, fish, eggs, or other food. GS-7 requires one year at the GS-5 level plus 52 weeks of independent, routine inspection work, and GS-8 and GS-9 add further experience requirements listed in the announcement.

How to apply well

What to send:

  • Resume showing personal information, education, and work experience with dates, hours per week, and series and grade (maximum 2 pages)
  • Copies of college transcripts if you use education to qualify (unofficial copies are fine to apply)
  • DD-214 if you claim Veterans' Preference

  • RIF notice, SF-50, and recent performance appraisal if you apply under CTAP, RPL, or ICTAP

Your resume and online assessment questionnaire must clearly support each answer, and inflated or unclear information can lower your rating.
