The target level needs 12 months of experience in a childcare or youth program, plus knowledge of child and youth development theories.

With education: Education can be used in place of experience. Target and intermediate applicants must also have one of these: for target, 12 semester hours of accredited college coursework related to the age group served, a Child Development Associate or other nationally recognized child or youth credential, or completed DoW-approved training; for intermediate, 6 semester hours in early childhood, elementary or secondary education, child and youth development, or special education, or equivalent industry childcare training.
