Do you qualify for GL-6 to GL-7?
With experience: You need at least 1 year of experience equal in difficulty to the next lower grade, including running diagnostic radiology equipment under radiologists or other medical officers to produce images used for diagnosis and treatment. For GL-6, examples include assisting with radiography, darkroom and film processing work, and positioning patients. For GL-7, examples include doing radiography on your own and assisting with ultrasound and echocardiogram studies.
With education: At GL-6, graduate education or an internship counts only if it is directly related to the job. At GL-7, one full year of graduate education meets the requirement. You may also combine education and experience, as long as together they show you can do the main duties of the job.
Licenses and certifications you need:
- Certification as a radiographer in this field, from a program accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (required under Public Law 97-35 and 42 CFR Part 75, with some exceptions for earlier federal employees and certain training or practice outside accredited programs)
