Who can apply: The public, Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL).
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, a national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Federal employees whose job was eliminated may get selection priority under the Career Transition Programs (CTAP or ICTAP).
Experience: You need at least 1 year of experience equal in difficulty to the next lower grade, including running diagnostic radiology equipment under radiologists or other medical officers to produce images used for diagnosis and treatment. For GL-6, examples include assisting with radiography, darkroom and film processing work, and positioning patients. For GL-7, examples include doing radiography on your own and assisting with ultrasound and echocardiogram studies.
Education: At GL-6, graduate education or an internship counts only if it is directly related to the job. At GL-7, one full year of graduate education meets the requirement. You may also combine education and experience, as long as together they show you can do the main duties of the job.
Licenses and certifications:
- Certification as a radiographer in this field, from a program accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (required under Public Law 97-35 and 42 CFR Part 75, with some exceptions for earlier federal employees and certain training or practice outside accredited programs)
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 3 days (November 6, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on your online questionnaire, your resume and supporting documents, and USA Hire competency-based assessments covering 10 skills, including attention to detail, customer service, teamwork and stress tolerance. You will be placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified or Qualified. Overstating your experience or cheating on an assessment may get you removed from consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- For each job on your resume, show start and end dates in MM/YYYY format and hours worked per week, or that experience may not count.
- If you use education to qualify, upload legible transcripts when you apply, since they are required at that time.
- Name uploaded files simply, such as VA Letter, DD-214 or Transcripts, and avoid special characters like % or #.
