Federal employees must also show 52 weeks at the grade below the one they want, such as GS-7 for GS-9.
With education: For GS-9, a master's degree or equivalent, or 2 full years of graduate study toward one, can replace experience. How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume of no more than two pages, saved as an accepted file type such as PDF or Word
- Resume must show hours worked per week, dates of employment, and duties for each job
- Resume must list job title, pay plan, series and grade for federal jobs, and employer address
- Most recent SF-50 showing your current position, grade, and tenure, required for all DeCA employees
- Unofficial transcripts if you use education to qualify, with official transcripts required before any firm offer

How you will be rated: HR first checks your documents to decide if you meet the minimum qualifications, and your questionnaire score is a preliminary measure of your employee relations and labor relations experience. Qualified applicants are then placed in Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified categories after the technical assessment. Missing or unclear documents, resumes over two pages, overstated experience, or personal details such as age or photos can result in an ineligible rating.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, because longer resumes are removed from consideration.
- List hours worked per week for every job, since resumes without hours may be considered incomplete.
- If you use education to qualify, upload transcripts, because a photocopy of your diploma is not accepted.
