Who can apply: The public.
Open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen or national. Permanent Resident Card holders are not eligible. Retired military members cannot be hired within 180 days of retirement, and retirees under CSRS or FERS are not considered.
Experience: You need experience that matches the grade you apply for, such as gathering facts and organizing case files at GS-9, or giving expert guidance on complex employee and labor relations matters at GS-12. Federal employees must also show 52 weeks at the grade below the one they want, such as GS-7 for GS-9.
Education: For GS-9, a master's degree or equivalent, or 2 full years of graduate study toward one, can replace experience. For GS-11, a Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 full years of graduate study toward one, can replace experience. Education cannot replace experience at GS-12. Education must come from an accredited college or university.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 6 days (November 9, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: HR first checks your documents to decide if you meet the minimum qualifications, and your questionnaire score is a preliminary measure of your employee relations and labor relations experience. Qualified applicants are then placed in Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified categories after the technical assessment. Missing or unclear documents, resumes over two pages, overstated experience, or personal details such as age or photos can result in an ineligible rating.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, because longer resumes are removed from consideration.
- List hours worked per week for every job, since resumes without hours may be considered incomplete.
- If you use education to qualify, upload transcripts, because a photocopy of your diploma is not accepted.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
