With experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-6 level. This means work that includes consulting with a physical therapist, interpreting their findings to start care, and making sure the treatment plan is designed to maximize healing. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts.

With education: One full year of graduate-level education in a field directly related to the job, such as Physical Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or Exercise Science. You can also combine education and experience: divide your months of experience by 12, divide your graduate semester hours by 9, and add the two percentages to reach at least 100%. Education must come from schools accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accreditor. Foreign education must be evaluated or given full U.S. credit.

Licenses and certifications you need:

  • Current, active, valid, and unrestricted Physical Therapy Assistant license from a state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

  • Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service, if you are a man born after December 31, 1959
  • Most recent performance appraisal, if applicable
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship
  • Cover letter, optional

How you will be rated: Your full application package (resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers) is reviewed to check whether you meet the qualifications. Incomplete packages are not considered further, and you may lose consideration if your qualifications or experience appear inflated.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must be two pages or less and must list hours worked per week for each job.
