Do you qualify for GS-9?
With experience: You need 1 year (52 full weeks) of experience at about the GS-7 level in federal service. It must include reviewing printing before final proofs, processing or writing contract orders, working on a project team, and handling printed products from one spot color to 4-color printing.
With education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree, 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education toward such a degree, or an LL.B. or J.D. if related, can replace the specialized experience. Your major must be in one of these subjects: journalism, business administration, English composition, commerce, accounting, printing or printing engineering, graphic or commercial art, industrial engineering, or economics. You may also combine experience and education, but only graduate education beyond the first 18 semester hours counts toward this.
How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume, limited to two pages, with month/day/year dates and hours worked per week for each job
- Answers to the vacancy questions in the online application
- Veterans' preference documentation, if you claim it
- CTAP or ICTAP documentation, if you are a displaced federal employee
- Official transcripts only if you qualify by education and are selected, not at first
- Optional cover letter
- Optional answers to up to four essay questions, 200 words each
How you will be rated: You are rated on how well you meet the qualifications, based on your resume, questionnaire answers, and an online USA Hire assessment that measures skills such as attention to detail, teamwork, and stress tolerance. Your rating places you in Category A, B, or C, which decides whether you are referred to the hiring manager, and a subject-matter expert may review your application. Overstating your experience or cheating on the assessment can get you removed from consideration.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must show month/day/year dates and hours worked per week for each job, or you may not get full credit.
- Keep your resume to two pages, because longer resumes are removed from consideration.
- If you qualify by education, be ready to send official transcripts before any job offer.
