Do you qualify for GS-14 to GS-15?
With experience: For the GS-15 level, you need one year of specialized experience at a level equal to GS-14, and for GS-14, one year equal to GS-13. Specialized experience means financial research for senior officials, advice on legal, financial, or national security effects of financial transactions, and legal advice on mergers, acquisitions, or corporate documents. You must also have 52 weeks at the GS-14 level for GS-15, or 52 weeks at GS-13 for GS-14.
With education: The announcement does not say education can replace experience. If you rely on education, it must come from a school accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume, two pages maximum, with dates as month/day/year and hours worked per week
- SF-50 showing current or most recent grade and position, for current or former federal employees
- Veterans' preference documents, as listed in the applicant guide, if claiming veterans' preference
- Transcripts, if relying on education to qualify
- Responses to the vacancy questions when you click Apply Online
How you will be rated: You are rated on your resume, online questionnaire, and Federal Supervisor Assessment questions covering seven supervisory skills. Qualified applicants are placed in quality category A, B, or C, and a subject matter expert may review your application; a resume that lacks clear evidence can lead to a 'not qualified' result.
Tips for this job:
- Give dates as month/day/year and hours per week for each job, or the experience may not get full credit.
- Keep your resume to two pages, since longer resumes are removed from consideration.
- Include clear evidence for each specialized experience area, especially financial analysis and transaction recommendations, since weak resumes can be rated not qualified.
