Do you qualify for ND-2 to ND-4?

With experience: For the top level (ND-04), you need at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 level (GS-9 to GS-11), such as designing mechanical or electromechanical systems with CAD, building prototypes, and testing them. For ND-03, you need one year at the ND-02 level (GS-5 to GS-8) doing similar engineering work.

With education: For ND-02, you need a full 4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a major in a field listed in the Education section. For the engineering series, a degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program works, and so does a set of advanced calculus and science courses or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. For ND-03, a master's degree or equivalent graduate study can replace experience.

Licenses and certifications you need:

  • DAWIA certification in the assigned functional area and tier, plus Continuous Learning points, within set timeframes

How to apply well

What to send:

  • Official or unofficial transcripts or a course list if you use education to qualify
  • DD-214 or VA letter if you claim veterans' preference, which does not apply to this hiring authority

How you will be rated: HR reviews your resume against the listed qualifications and rates you on the information it shows, along with any supporting documents. Qualified applicants are referred to the hiring manager, who may interview them. Claiming more experience than you have can make you ineligible, and incomplete packages receive an ineligible rating.
