Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but the agency clarifies that only U.S. citizens can apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens to meet the eligibility rules.
Experience: For the top level (ND-04), you need at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 level (GS-9 to GS-11), such as designing mechanical or electromechanical systems with CAD, building prototypes, and testing them. For ND-03, you need one year at the ND-02 level (GS-5 to GS-8) doing similar engineering work.
Education: For ND-02, you need a full 4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a major in a field listed in the Education section. For the engineering series, a degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program works, and so does a set of advanced calculus and science courses or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. For ND-03, a master's degree or equivalent graduate study can replace experience.
Licenses and certifications:
- DAWIA certification in the assigned functional area and tier, plus Continuous Learning points, within set timeframes
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 26 days (November 30, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: HR reviews your resume against the listed qualifications and rates you on the information it shows, along with any supporting documents. Qualified applicants are referred to the hiring manager, who may interview them. Claiming more experience than you have can make you ineligible, and incomplete packages receive an ineligible rating.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Make sure your resume lists dates, hours per week, and pay plan and grade for each federal job, and consider using the USAJOBS Resume Builder.
- If you use education to qualify, attach transcripts or a course list with grades and completion dates.
- Include the job announcement number DE-13105003-27-BWH with your submission, and use only the link in the How to Apply section since faxed applications are not considered.
