Do you qualify for WB?

With experience: You must show that you can do the work of a Meter and Relay Craftsman on your own, with no more than normal supervision. No fixed number of years is required; the agency looks at the quality of your paid or unpaid experience and training, using OPM's trades and labor qualification standard.

With education: Education cannot be substituted for experience for this position.

How to apply well

What to send:

  • Resume of no more than two pages showing duties, employer full names and addresses, start and end dates, hours per week, and salary
  • Any completed education or training, with program title, hours, and completion date
  • Answers to the four short essay questions in the questionnaire (not scored)
  • DD-214 or other proof if you claim veterans' preference
  • CTAP or ICTAP papers if you apply under those programs, such as a separation notice, SF-50, and most recent performance appraisal

How you will be rated: First, your resume must show you meet the minimum qualifications, including a screen-out factor on doing the work independently without more than normal supervision; failing it makes you ineligible. Qualified applicants then answer self-assessment questions and are placed in Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified categories, and your score can be lowered or you can be removed if your answers are not supported by your resume.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must clearly show hands-on work maintaining, programming, or testing protective relays or revenue metering equipment.
  • Only the first two pages of your resume are reviewed, so put your most relevant experience first.
  • For each job, list the employer's full name and address, start and end dates by month, day and year, and hours per week.
