Do you qualify for VN?

With experience: Experience needed depends on the grade you qualify for. For example, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no nursing experience can qualify for Nurse I, Level II, while Nurse I, Level III requires 2 years of professional nursing experience, one year at the Level II standard. ICU or emergency department experience is preferred but not required, and paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts.

With education: You must be a graduate of a professional nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE, or meet the foreign-school rules in the announcement. An Associate Degree or diploma can qualify for the lowest level, and a BSN or higher can qualify for higher levels. Foreign degrees above associate level need a formal equivalency validation from an accepted evaluator.

Licenses and certifications you need:

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted nursing registration in a U.S. state, territory, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior Level IV certification
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification

How you will be rated: You are rated on how well you meet the qualifications through an online questionnaire, and your nursing experience is rated on five dimensions: Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research. Your application and documents will be verified, and errors or missing information may lower your rating or make you ineligible.

Tips for this job:

  • Submit a long-form resume or CV. The 2-page resume limit does not apply to this job.
  • Describe your nursing experience clearly and specifically, with dates and hours per week, because the agency will not assume anything.
