Child and Youth Program Assistant (Multilevel) – Lakehurst
Air Mobility Command · Department of the Air Force
This job in plain English
This is a Child and Youth Program Assistant job at the Child Development Center on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. It is run by Air Mobility Command as a Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) job for Air Force and Space Force morale, welfare and recreation programs. The job is intermittent and flexible, and the announcement says there are few vacancies.
Can you apply?
Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.
- Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.
Open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and people who owe allegiance to the U.S. Preference groups, such as military spouses, veterans, and people in transition hiring programs, may get priority, but you must claim the preference and prove it.
What you would do
- Supervise children and youth during indoor, outdoor, and off-site activities.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities for children and youth.
- Prepare and serve snacks and meals.
- Brief staff, management, and parents on program activities.
- Inventory equipment and supplies.
- Transport children in government vehicles, if required.
Do you qualify for CY-1 to CY-2?
With experience: Entry level needs no prior experience. Intermediate level needs 6 months of experience in a group program for children or youth, at a level equal to CY-01 Entry Level. Target level needs 12 months of work in a childcare or youth program, plus knowledge of how children and youth develop.
With education: All levels require a high school diploma or GED. Education can replace some experience. For intermediate level, 6 semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary or secondary education, child and youth development, or special education can count, as can Entry Level training or an equivalent childcare certification. For target level, 12 semester hours of coursework for the age group served, or a Child Development Associate (CDA) or similar nationally recognized credential, can count. Foreign education must be shown to be equal to a U.S. education.
How to apply well
What to send:
- Resume that clearly describes your relevant paid and unpaid experience, with dates and hours per week
- Transcripts from accredited schools if you qualify through education
- Diploma or GED
- Proof of any preference you claim, such as DD-214 for veterans or proof of marriage for military spouse preference
- Professional certification, such as a CDA credential, if you claim it
- Cover letter (optional)
How you will be rated: Your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers are reviewed against the qualifications. If you meet the minimum, your resume is compared with your questionnaire answers to rate your experience. If you appear to have inflated your answers, you may lose consideration. Missing information or documents can lower your rating or make your application incomplete.
Tips for this job:
- Claim every preference you qualify for in the questionnaire and attach proof of it, or your application may be incomplete.
- Your resume should list dates, hours per week, and specific duties with children or youth, since experience is rated from it.
- The full application package is due by 11:59 PM EST on 12/31/2026, so upload documents early because virus scans can take several hours.
