Can you apply?

Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.

  • Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.

The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Because direct-hire authority is used, traditional veterans' preference rules do not apply, though qualified veterans get full consideration.

  • Set up and maintain systems in line with organizational security policies.

Do you qualify for GS-12 to GS-13?

With experience: You need one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level (the next lower grade, GS-11, in the normal career path) or at the GS-13 level (the next lower grade, GS-12). Qualifying experience includes administering enterprise virtualization such as hypervisors, virtual machines, compute clusters, virtual networking and storage, and you must also show demonstrated experience with large-scale enterprise virtualization infrastructure. You must also show IT-related experience demonstrating four basic competencies: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

With education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade level. If you rely on any education, include only degrees and attendance from schools accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting institution.

How to apply well

What to send:

  • Resume of two pages or less showing job title, duties, month and year dates, and hours per week for each job
  • Evidence of the four basic competencies and the virtualization experience, shown in your resume
  • SF-50, transcripts, or ICTAP/CTAP documents only if they apply to your situation

How you will be rated: You are rated on your application materials, your questionnaire answers, and a USA Hire online assessment that measures 14 general competencies, and you must meet the cut score. Overstating your experience or cheating on the assessment can remove you from consideration.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must show the four basic competencies and the virtualization experience, or your application will be ineligible.
  • Keep your resume to two pages and list hours per week for each job, since the agency will not assume them.
  • After you apply, check for the USA Hire assessment email, set aside at least 3 hours, and use your unique link.
