Can you apply?

Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.

  • Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.

This job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. You must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.

Do you qualify for GS-7?

With experience: You need 1 year of specialized experience, meaning work that included prophylactic (teeth cleaning) procedures, oral examinations, and performing or interpreting routine x-rays, at a level comparable to GS-7. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts.

With education: This job does not have an education qualification requirement. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone; education cannot replace experience.

Licenses and certifications you need:

  • Current state dental hygienist license, issued in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Radiology credentials under Public Law 97-35, such as certification as a radiographer

  • Copy of your current state dental hygienist license, required or you will be rated ineligible
  • Most recent performance appraisal, if applicable
  • Completed online questionnaire
  • Optional cover letter

How you will be rated: You will be rated on how well your resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers show you meet the qualifications. Incomplete packages are not considered, resumes over two pages are removed, and inflated qualifications may cause you to lose consideration.
