Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but the agency says only U.S. citizens may apply. You must be a U.S. citizen to be hired.
Experience: You need one year of specialized experience at a level comparable to GS-11. Specialized experience means work with publishing practices such as printed media, manuscript preparation, design and typography, and the printing process. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, can count.
Education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents

3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 17 days (November 20, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume and questionnaire are checked against the minimum qualifications, and then you are placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified. You must also meet the USA Hire assessment cut score, and if you score below it or do not finish the assessment, you will not be considered.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Make sure your two-page resume shows your publishing experience and any education or certifications, with dates.
- Set aside at least 3 hours for the USA Hire assessment and finish it before the deadline.
- If you claim veterans' preference, upload your DD-214 or the required certification, or you may lose the preference.
