Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the United States.
Experience: You need two years of specialized experience planning, managing, coordinating or carrying out outreach for Personal and Family Life Readiness or Quality of Life programs. Examples include life skills education, personal financial management, relocation assistance, transition assistance, employment assistance, the Ombudsman Program, and the Exceptional Family Member Program. The announcement does not name a grade level for this experience.
Education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree can qualify you, as can two full years of graduate education leading to a degree related to the job, or an LL.B. or J.D. if related. A mix of education and experience that gives equivalent knowledge can also qualify. The announcement says this position does not have a positive education requirement.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes tomorrow (November 5, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume and questionnaire are checked against the required qualifications, then rated on your knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs). Best qualified applicants are sent to the hiring manager, and the selecting official may interview some of them.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Describe your quality-of-life or outreach program work clearly, with dates and the programs you worked on.
- If you qualify through education, order official transcripts early, since diplomas and degree audits are not accepted.
- Keep your resume to two pages in Times New Roman 10-point or larger, with 1-inch margins.
