Who can apply: The public.
Open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and legal residents of the U.S. who live within 60 miles of RAF Lakenheath, or will move there within 30 days. British citizens may not apply, and applicants cannot be 'ordinarily resident' in the UK (more than 366 days there without a link to the U.S. Visiting Forces).
Experience: You need experience or training in food handling and serving, knowledge of menu items and wines, cash handling and simple math, and skill dealing with the public. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts. The announcement does not give a number of years or a grade-level match.
Education: Education cannot replace experience for this job. Foreign education can count only if you show it is equivalent to a U.S. education.
Licenses and certifications:
- Food Handler's Certificate, or completed food handler's training (you must be able to obtain it)
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 8 days (November 12, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your application will be checked for minimum qualifications, then your resume and documents are compared with your questionnaire answers to rate your experience. If you are found to have inflated your qualifications or experience, you may lose consideration, and errors or omissions may affect your eligibility.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Show clearly on your resume that you live within 60 miles of RAF Lakenheath, or plan to within 30 days, and provide proof of residency.
- Describe food serving, cash handling, and customer service work in detail, since your resume must show this experience.
- Have a REAL ID or the other approved documents ready so you can access the base if selected.
