Who can apply: The public.

This job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. You must prove U.S. citizenship.

Education: You need at least 24 semester hours in special education, including 12 semester hours directly related to teaching students with visual impairments. Required topics include characteristics of students with visual impairments, orientation and mobility, Braille instruction, eye medicine and pathology, and curriculum and assessment for students with visual impairments. Braille coursework is required. A current, unrestricted professional teaching license in visual impairment (or the state equivalent) is treated as meeting these course requirements. Foreign degrees must be evaluated before they are accepted.

Licenses and certifications:

  • State or territory teaching certification or license, or a DoDEA license (copy required with your application)

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 8 days (November 11, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: After the application closes, your qualifications are reviewed and you are ranked. The highest-ranked candidates go to the hiring manager for possible interview as openings occur. If required documents are missing, you may not be considered or rated, and a missing license copy means you will be rated ineligible.

Apply on USAJOBS ↗
4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Apply through the DoWEA EAS link at webapps.dodea.edu, not on USAJOBS, because USAJOBS applications are not considered.
  • Upload a copy of your teaching license or certification, or you will be rated ineligible.
  • Upload front and back copies of all your transcripts, with the announcement number NC7X-27-13102362 written on them, and include any courses in progress.
