Who can apply: Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL), The public.

This job is open to the public, but applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. Federal employees who are eligible under Career Transition Programs (CTAP or ICTAP) get selection priority if they are rated well-qualified.

Experience: You need one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 level in the federal service, or comparable non-federal experience. That experience must include leading the development of information security programs, and managing IT program execution and resource management across multiple organizations. Basic qualifications follow the OPM IT Management Series 2210 standard for GS-12 and above.

Education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Certification in FAC-COR level III and/or FAC-PM certification, which you must obtain and maintain

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 2 days (November 5, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Your qualifications are rated using your application, your resume, and the USA Hire assessment. Your resume must show the specialized experience, and repeating the specialized experience statement in your resume can get you rated ineligible.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Sensitive Compartmented Information), then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Your resume must show month and year dates, hours per week for part-time jobs, and proof of your specialized experience at the GS-14 level, without copying the statement word for word.
  • Check your spam or junk folder for the USA Hire assessment email, and finish the assessment within 48 hours of the closing date.
  • The four essay questions are optional and not scored, but each answer must be 200 words or less, in your own words, with no AI or consultant help.
