Who can apply: Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL), The public, Veterans.
Open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Career transition program eligibles (CTAP/ICTAP), veterans, and certain family members of veterans may also apply and may get priority.
Experience: You need at least one year of specialized experience at a level comparable to GS-14 in the public or private sector. Your experience must show four of six listed areas, such as developing research proposals, overseeing project teams, reviewing staff products, supervising staff, and representing an agency before others.
Education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade. Your education must be combined with the specialized experience described above.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 8 days (November 11, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: Your resume must show you meet the qualifications, and your questionnaire answers are compared with your resume. Rating yourself higher than your resume supports can lower your rating or remove you from consideration; you must also complete an online USA Hire assessment, and selected applicants may face a structured panel interview of 2 to 4 members.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- List month and year for each job, plus hours per week and salary, on your resume, since missing details may cost you credit.
- Submit your college transcripts if you rely on education, and make sure your application includes the questionnaire and all documents by the closing deadline.
- Show specific examples of supervising staff, reviewing products, and representing an agency, because these match the required experience areas.
