Who can apply: The public, Military spouses, Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL).
The job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. Career transition candidates (federal employees whose job was eliminated) and military spouses of active duty service members may also be eligible for priority or preference.
Experience: You need 1 year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that shows you can learn the duties of the job (general experience). Paid and unpaid work counts, including volunteer work with organizations such as AmeriCorps or Peace Corps. The announcement does not name a specific grade level for this experience.
Education: Two full years of education above high school can qualify you instead of experience. Transcripts are required if you use education to qualify, and the school must be accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accreditor. You can also combine experience and education using the announcement's percentage formula.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 185 days (April 30, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
This is open continuous with an initial cut-off date 14 days after the open date (one section says 30 days), so applications after that date are considered only if more vacancies open later.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: HR first checks your documents to see if you meet the minimum qualifications. You then answer an online questionnaire about six areas (clerical and administrative, communications, customer service, electronic checkout system, safety and housekeeping, and store operations), and you are placed in the Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified group. You can be rated ineligible for overstating your experience, submitting encrypted or portfolio files, including a photo, or including personal details like age or Social Security number on your resume.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must list hours worked per week for each job, or it may be considered incomplete.
- Keep your resume to two pages or less, or you will be removed from consideration.
- If you use education to qualify, send official or unofficial transcripts that list your classes and credits.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
