Can you apply?
Yes, if you are a U.S. citizen: this job is open to everyone.
- Open to everyoneAny U.S. citizen or national can apply. Some jobs also accept non-citizens; the announcement says so.

Do you qualify for GS-13?
With experience: You need at least 2 years of experience as a professional psychologist, including at least 1 year at a level comparable to GS-12, a lower federal grade. The experience can be paid or unpaid, and must come from psychologist work or a supervised post-doctoral training program that involved active practice or a current license.
With education: You need a doctoral degree in psychology from a program accredited by APA, PCSAS, or CPA, with a specialty that fits the job. You also need a completed internship from an APA or CPA accredited program that fits the job. Other options include a doctoral degree in any psychology area plus an accredited re-specialization program, or a doctoral degree from 1951 to 1978 from a regionally accredited school with a mainly psychological dissertation. Education cannot replace experience at this grade.
Licenses and certifications you need:
- Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
- Board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology, only if your internship was not accredited
How to apply well
What to send:
- Long-form resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
- Transcripts if you use education to qualify, including re-specialization transcripts
- Statement from your doctoral program verifying internship experience, if your degree was awarded 1951 to 1978 and the internship is not on your transcript
- Professional certification or license, if applicable
- DD-214 if you claim veterans' preference, and SF-50 if you are a current or former federal employee
How you will be rated: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications. The agency verifies your application, resume, CV, and supporting documents, and may check references. Missing information or errors may lower your rating or make you ineligible.
Tips for this job:
- Make your long-form resume or CV clear and specific about dates, hours, and duties, because the agency verifies everything you list.
- If you use your doctoral degree or internship to qualify, send transcripts and confirm the program's accreditation is APA, PCSAS, or CPA.
- The 2-page resume limit does not apply to this job, so a full CV is fine. Also confirm your license is full, current, and unrestricted before you apply.
