Who can apply: The public.

This job is open to the public and to candidates worldwide. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S.; non-U.S. nationals must have lived in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for 3 or more continuous years before federal service begins. Military Spouse Preference and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference candidates are included.

Experience: You need professional experience showing knowledge of child development, early intervention, special education, and early childhood inclusion, plus experience with evidence-based practices, behavior assessments, and training adult learners. Two years of work with special needs children is listed as a highly preferred qualification. The announcement does not state a grade level for this experience.

Education: A bachelor's degree or higher with at least 24 semester hours in directly related fields such as special education, early childhood education, child or adolescent development, or youth development. Alternatively, you may have 24 semester hours in these fields plus related coursework or experience equal to a 4-year course of study. General psychology and sociology courses do not count.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications

Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

2 Resume and documents

Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.

3 Apply on USAJOBS

Closes in 5 days (November 2, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).

The first cutoff date is Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 11:59 PM CST. Applicants who apply by then are referred to management first, and later applicants are referred only if management asks.

You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.

How they rate you: Applicants are rated on how well their resume, supporting documents, and questionnaire answers match the listed qualifications. Incomplete applications, including missing questionnaire answers, may be rated ineligible, and overstated experience may hurt your chances.

4 After you apply

In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.

If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.

Tips for this job:

  • Keep your resume to two pages and clearly show each required experience area.
  • Attach transcripts showing at least 24 semester hours in directly related courses; general psychology or sociology does not count.
  • Apply by October 22, 2026 to be referred first, and answer every questionnaire item completely.
