Do you qualify for GS-9 to GS-11?
With experience: For GS-9, no experience beyond the basic education and licensing requirements is needed. For GS-11, you need at least 1 year of experience after your master's degree in social work, at the GS-9 level, in health care or social work settings, plus a state license to practice independently. Experience in geriatric, hospital, hospice, or medical social work is preferred.
With education: You need a master's degree in social work from a school fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A doctoral degree in social work cannot replace the master's degree. For GS-11, a doctoral degree in social work can replace the one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting.
Licenses and certifications you need:
- State license or certification to independently practice social work at the master's level (required for GS-11 and above; GS-9 may be waived pending exam completion)

- Long-form resume or curriculum vitae (CV) showing dates and hours per week

How you will be rated: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications, based on an online occupational questionnaire and your submitted documents. Your application, resume, and documents will be verified, and pre-employment reference checks may be done; errors or missing documents may lower your rating or affect consideration.
Tips for this job:
- Your long-form resume or CV must clearly show your social work experience, dates, and hours per week, since the VA verifies it.
