Who can apply: Internal to an agency, The public.

You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Applicants are considered in this order: first, current permanent VA Finger Lakes Healthcare System employees (including current and past health professions trainees); second, current permanent VA employees; third, all U.S. citizens.

Experience: For GS-9, you need a master's degree in social work and state licensure, with no extra experience required. For GS-11, you need at least 1 year of post-master's social work experience comparable to GS-9 in health care or social work settings, plus independent licensure. Experience counts only if it came after you earned your master's degree.

Education: You need a master's degree in social work from a school fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A doctoral degree in social work cannot replace the master's degree. For GS-11, a doctoral degree in social work may replace the one year of clinical experience.

Licenses and certifications:

State license or certification to practice social work independently at the master's level (required for GS-11; GS-9 may be waived temporarily)
