Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public, but you must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the U.S. You will be required to prove U.S. citizenship.
Experience: You need one year of specialized experience at the next lower level (GS-11). This means work doing bio-psychosocial evaluations (assessments of a person's biological, psychological, and social needs), individual or group counseling, and psychosocial treatment plans.
Education: A master's degree (or higher) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized private organization or receive full U.S. accredited credit.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license (LCSW) to practice social work independently, from a U.S. state, D.C., territory, or jurisdiction
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.

4 After you apply

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Secret), then the final offer with your start date.
