Who can apply: The public.
The job is open to the public, but only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. may apply. Military spouse, Priority Placement Program and displaced federal employee (ICTAP) preferences may also apply if you qualify.
Experience: No set number of years is required. You must show in your resume that you have the skills to do the work without more than normal supervision, such as aligning fabric for straight and slightly curved stitching, running lock stitch machines, and making alterations for an exact fit. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts.
Education: Education cannot replace experience at this grade.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 64 days (December 31, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
Applications are reviewed at periodic cut-off dates, and the first is September 4, 2026. Applications received after that date are considered only if there are not enough candidates or more vacancies open.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You are rated as Best Qualified, Highly Qualified or Qualified, and veterans' preference applicants are listed first within each group. Failing the minimum screening element means an ineligible rating, and inflated qualifications may cause you to lose consideration.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Your resume must be two pages or less and must list hours per week for each job, or your application may be marked incomplete.
- Describe sewing work that matches the listed skills, such as lock stitch machines and alterations for an exact fit.
- Submit by the 11:59 PM EST closing date on 12/31/2026, and apply before September 4, 2026 to be considered in the first cut-off.
