Who can apply: The public.
This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the United States. Qualified candidates are referred in this order: current permanent employees of the Phoenix VA Health Care System, then current permanent VHA employees, then all other viable candidates.
Experience: You need at least 2 years of experience after you earned advanced practice clinical licensure, in a specialized area of social work. One of those years must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
Education: You need a Master's Degree in Social Work from a school fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Schools in candidacy status do not count until fully accredited. A Doctoral Degree in Social Work cannot replace the Master's Degree.
Licenses and certifications:
- State license to independently practice social work at the Master's level
- State license or certification at the advanced practice level, including an advanced generalist or clinical exam (California has its own exam)
- Ability to provide supervision for licensure
- Current, unrestricted driver's license
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 2 days (November 6, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You will be rated on how well you meet the qualifications listed. Your application, resume, CV, and documents will be verified, and errors or missing information may lead to an ineligible rating or a lower overall rating. The VA also performs pre-employment reference checks.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, a security clearance (Other), then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- The 2-page resume limit does not apply to this job, so send a long-form resume or CV that shows dates and details of your experience.
- Send your transcript with your application, because the Master's degree in Social Work is a required qualification.
- Have your license copy and onboarding ID ready, since the hiring process is fast and pre-employment steps are due within 3 days of a tentative offer.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
