Who can apply: The public.
Only U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the U.S. can apply. You must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
Experience: You need 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-7 level. This means work such as using automated security systems, helping with security inspections, and collecting data for security reports. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, counts.
Education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education, in a field such as Security Management. You can also combine education and experience, but the total must add up to at least 100%. Education from foreign schools must be evaluated.
Licenses and certifications:
- Valid state driver's license
- Department of Defense Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC), earned within 2 years of starting
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents

For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
