This job is open to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or someone who owes allegiance to the United States. Non-citizens may be hired only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
Experience: Nurse I, Level 2 requires 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 1, along with an associate degree or diploma. Nurse I, Level 3 requires 2 years of professional nursing experience, one of which is equivalent to Nurse I, Level 2. VA reviews your nursing experience on five areas: practice, Veteran/patient-driven care, leadership, professional development, and evidence-based practice/research.
Education: Level 1 requires an associate degree (ADN) or diploma in nursing. Level 2 can be met with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no extra nursing experience. Level 3 can be met with a master's degree in nursing (MSN), or a master's in a related field with a BSN. You must have graduated from a nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE. Foreign degrees do not count as related degrees.
Licenses and certifications:
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registered nurse license from a U.S. state, territory, Puerto Rico, or D.C.
Experience can be paid or unpaid, volunteer work included: if it matches the duties, it counts. The full rules are in the announcement.
2 Resume and documents
Write a federal resume for this job. For each job you held, give the month and year you started and ended, your hours per week and what you did, using the words of the experience the announcement asks for. Many announcements accept resumes of up to 2 pages: check this one.
3 Apply on USAJOBS
Closes in 2 days (November 5, until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
This job may close before the closing date once 25 applications are received.
You sign in to USAJOBS with a Login.gov account, answer the questionnaire and upload your documents, then you submit. Answer the questionnaire honestly: your resume must show what you claim.
How they rate you: You are rated on how well you meet the qualifications, based on your online questionnaire and documents. Your nursing experience is checked for quality across five nursing dimensions. Missing information, errors, or omissions may lower your rating or make you ineligible.
4 After you apply
In USAJOBS, under Applications, you can see where your application stands: received, reviewed, referred to the hiring manager or not, then selected or not. It can take a few weeks.
For the interview, prepare three examples with the STAR method: the Situation, the Task, what you did (Action) and the Result.
If they choose you: a tentative offer, then a background check, then the final offer with your start date.
Tips for this job:
- Include a long-form resume or CV with clear, specific nursing experience, since VA will not assume what you did.
- Claim veterans' preference in the questionnaire and attach your DD-214 and SF-15 if they apply, or it will not count.
- Make sure your education is from a school accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized body if you rely on it to qualify.
Kandidatu is an independent website: only the official posting counts. Read it before you apply.
